We've received a lot of questions over the 20 years we've been around. Some aren't relevent any longer, like how to listen using a 14.4Kbps modem, but some questions still are. Read below to see if your question is listed.
Q. Is this the same Philosomatika from 1999?
A. Yes! We went offline back in 2011 for 2-3 years, and unfortunately lost our huge listener base, but we're back doing the same thing we were before.
Q. Why did you guys disappear in 2011? What happened?
A. The station was threatened with a cease and desist from the RIAA. Even though all the artists & labels played at the time were outside the United States, I didn't want to risk a legal battle, so I shut down all aspects of the station. It was a very difficult decision, but in the end it didn't make sense to potentially put my family's livelihood at risk by entering into a legal battle with no financial backing. Now, we're back using a different model that the RIAA is ok with, so it won't be an issue again.
Q. Why can't I listen to your station from my country?
A. We use a service called Radionomy to stream our music, and satisfy the RIAA. Radionomy's business model depends on advertisements being played on the stations they host. Radionomy seems to be losing money by streaming to certain countries. Philosomatika has no control over these geo-blocked countries.
Q. Is there anything I can do to listen from my blocked country?
A.
Philosomatika Premium doesn't have any blocks in place, and offers a lot more variety in the music.
Q. How often is the music updated?
A. Music is udpated every 3 months for the public channel, as well for all 3 Premium channels.
Q. Why are there so many commercials?
A. Our station is hosted by Radionomy, and their business model is supported by commercials. If you'd like to get rid of the commercials, check out
Philosomatika Premium.
